WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

🔹Are you fascinated by the United States of America and their extraordinary legal system?
🔹Do you want to learn more about the ideas that have influenced the creation of the American state?
🔹Are you interested in the meanders of the American free-market economy and the history of exceptional American socio-economic development?
🔹Or maybe you simply want to understand better how the United States functions in the modern world and the international arena, considering its centuries-old philosophical, legal, and political framework?

WHY SHOULD YOU APPLY?
🎓Our Summer School offers a unique opportunity to expand your knowledge of these areas and reach for a better understanding of America, thanks to a broad, interdisciplinary, and Socratic approach.
🎓Seminar-style classes will be taught by internationally renowned experts from the United States, Poland and Germany, and the open-debate format of each course will create a stimulating learning enviroment for all participants.

📝 WHO CAN APPLY? 📝
We welcome applications from both undergraduate and graduate students as well as alumni of all disciplines.
Even though we expect most of the applications to come from students of law, political science, philosophy, economics, international relations, and sociology, we will welcome your application regardless of your specific educational background as long as you demonstrate the willingnes to actively engage in each seminar and discussion.

We welcome applications from all countries, but we are not responsible for your visa arrangements.

🔜 HOW TO APPLY? 🔜
In order to apply to our Summer School, please send us the following:
• CV/resume highlighting your professional and academic experience (such as community activism, publications, conferences, etc.).
• Cover Letter stating why you want to participate in the Summer School in American Law, Politics & Economy, what you want to gain from the program, and how it will enrich you academically and/or personally.

Both your Cover Letter and CV/resume should not exceed 2 pages each.

Your CV/resume should also include the following clause regarding personal data processing:

❗️The final deadline for your application is July 1st, but we will be admitting participants on a rolling basis. It is highly advised that you apply as early as possible since the number of participants is limited. If you get accepted before any of the deadlines you will be requested to pay the participation fee earlier❗️

COST OF PARTICIPATION
🔜 if you apply before June 1st: 379 zł / 90 euros
🔚 if you apply after June 1st but before July 1st: 459 zł / 109 euros

The price includes Summer School materials and lunch during five days of seminars.

We do not provide accomodation for the participants of the Summer School. We will, however, do our best to assist you in choosing the right hostel or hotel should you have any questions. We will also add all accepted applicants to a common Facebook group on which you will be able to arrange accomodation with other participants of the program, such as by renting an apartment through AirBnB. We deeply encourage cross-cultural friendships!

👩🏼‍🏫THE SUMMER SCHOOL’S PROGRAM 👨🏻‍🏫
The Summer School will consist of three courses, covering the legal-political outline of the constitutional system of the United States, the history of American socio-economic thought, and the political-philosophical ideas that have paved the ground for the foundation of the American state and nation.

2️⃣ Economics of the Free Society
Instructor: dr Karl-Friedrich Israel
(Leipzig University)

3️⃣ Philosophical Foundations of the American Political System
Instructor: dr Maciej Turek
(Institute of American Studies of the Jagiellonian University)

Our Summer School is not only learning but also about developing cross-cultural relationships with other participants!

❗️IMPORTANT DATES ❗️
• June 1st, 2019 – early deadline for submitting your application (discounted fee)
• July 1, 2019 – final deadline for submitting your application
(keep in mind we will be admitting participants on a rolling basis so do not wait until last minute! We advise applying as soon as possible since the number of participants we can admit is limited due to logistical reasons)
• July 5, 2019 – final notifications as to whether your application has been accepted
• July 10, 2019 – final deadline for the Summer School fee (for those accepted earlier, there will be a seperate deadline)
• September 8-13, 2019 – the Summer School

🔈ROLLING BASIS ACCEPTANCE – what does it mean?
Addmitting applicants on a rolling basis means that you have the possibility of receiving an acceptance letter to participate in the Summer School before July 5, 2019.
If we do not get back to you in 2 weeks since the date of the submission of your application, it means that you are put on the reserve list and will receive a notification as to the status of your application before or on July 5, 2019.
