Dr. sc. Jason Blake docent je na Filozofskom fakultetu Sveučilišta u Ljubljani. Rođen je u Torontu, a u Sloveniji živi od 2000. godine. Autor je mnogih popularnih i znanstvenih članaka i knjiga o kanadskoj, ali i o slovenskoj kulturi.

Nakon Blakeova predavanja slijedi film „Maurice Richard“ (2005), priča o najpoznatijem kvebečkom hokejašu, Mauriceu „Raketi“ Richardu i njegovoj karijeri te borbi frankofonog Kanađanina u Nacionalnoj hokejaškoj ligi kojom dominiraju anglofoni Kanađani.  Film je dobio brojne kanadske nagrade- između ostalog, u kategorijama najboljeg filma, najbolje glavne uloge, kamere.

During six weeks of the summer, SUISS offers two programmes of study: Text and Context and Creative Writing. Students may choose to attend a continuous programme of study or to attend a combination of courses.
The Text and Context programme provides comprehensive, interdisciplinary courses that examine literature from Britain and Ireland in the context of the key social and cultural developments during the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. The dynamic and diverse characteristics of more than a hundred years of English, Irish, and Scottish texts are studied in conjunction with recent developments in literary theory.
The Creative Writing programme is one of the most exciting and diverse programmes available in Britain. The four-week course offers developing writers a supportive environment in which to further their writing skills in fiction, poetry, and drama. Students have a unique opportunity to develop their own critical analysis by attending Modernism and Scottish Literature lectures, as well as author-led masterclasses.

Application procedure is very simple.There are several scholarships covering SUISS fees, available for English Studies students: Satire Scholarship for Scottish Literature (meant for PhD students writing PhDs on any aspect of Scottish Literature), David Daiches Scholarship (for undergrad. and grad. English and Irish Studies students), and Edwin Morgan Translation Scholarship (for professional translators).

• Excellent computer literacy, internet research experience and willingness to familiarize oneself with the Embassy’s internal computer programs

UEA International Summer School 2014 : 28 June-25 July

The University of East Anglia will be running a very unique and exciting accredited module in American Studies this summer, ‘Revolutionaries, Radicals and Renegades’, at UK 20 credits that are part of our International Summer School. ‘Revolutionaries, Radicals and Renegades’ asks students to consider the complex transnational operations of radical and revolutionary movements throughout the history of the Americas. In particular, it explores the literary and philosophical connections between British and American thinkers and artists from the Revolutionary Era, through the Civil Rights Movement to the present. Our academic lead, Nicholas Grant, will be happy to discuss the academic programme with any of your students.
Our summer study programme runs for 4 weeks from 28 June-25 July and provides a stimulating academic experience at the UK’s #1 university for student experience. Our participants come from all over the world, providing an internationally diverse experience in a beautiful location on the East coast of England.
Our programme fee includes airport transfers, more than 40 academic contact hours and transcript (20 UK credits), private en-suite accommodation, arrivals and finale events and an inclusive social programme, and we have an early bird fee of Ł2,295.00 for applications submitted before 21 March. The ‘Revolutionaries, Radicals and Renegades’ module carries a supplement of Ł695.00 as two weeks is spent living and learning in the nation’s bustling capital, London.

American Studies Symposium
“Critical and Comparative Perspectives on American Studies”
English Department, Faculty of Philosophy, University of Sarajevo, March 22, 2014

The English Department of the University of Sarajevo will host an American Studies Symposium on Saturday, March 22, 2014. We invite you to join us for a full day of theme-based sessions and discussion groups, with ample opportunities to present a range of approaches, and to exchange reactions, impressions, and suggestions.

Keynote speaker: Prof. Joseph W.H. Lough, Ph.D., University of California, Berkeley, and Visiting Fulbright Professor.

Since its inception in the 1930s, the field of American studies has been continuously examining its own disciplinary concepts, methodological approaches and geographic assumptions. It has been argued that such questioning of its own identity has made American studies one of the most rapidly developing disciplines in the world. One of the intrinsic tendencies in this field has been the linking a broad set of concerns across various other fields of study, notably those of cultural studies, ecocriticism, gender and critical race studies, immigration and issues of (post)coloniality. In recent decades, this discipline has been especially invigorated by focusing heightened attention on globalization, internationalization, transnationalization, and hemispheric studies (such as the most recent archipelagic American studies).

During this symposium, we will address the convergences and divergences of this area of inquiry, and, more specifically, how this discipline might be approached. Further, it will examine what role and capacity American studies may have amid menacing circumstances of environmental, economic and educational degradation, in a world marked by a transnational flux of people, money, and cultures.
The symposium will be hosted by the Faculty of Philosophy in Sarajevo (Franje Račkog 1), where all activities will take place. A book of proceedings containing the symposium papers will be published following an editorial process.

Submission
All papers pertaining to the topic are welcome. Possible areas of investigation include, but are not limited to history, literature, linguistics, politics, geography, popular culture, arts, education, philosophy, sociology, and gender. The presentations must be in English, and should be approximately 20 minutes in length. All interested parties are invited to send proposals (250 words or fewer) no later than February 20, 2014, to the following email address: amsinsarajevo@gmail.com. Along with your proposal, please submit a short biography, including contact information and any audio/visual equipment necessary for your presentation. Inquiries regarding the symposium may be made to the above mentioned email address.

Deadline for submissions: February 20, 2014.

Notifications of acceptance: March 1, 2014.

Registration: All participants are required to register for the conference. The registration fee is BAM 40.00. The participation fee includes all symposium proceedings, daytime refreshments and lunch. Payments can be made in advance by bank transfer or by cash on the morning of the symposium. Payment by credit card is not possible.

is delighted to inform you that the Call for Applications for the  Graz International Summer School Seggau 2014 – Transformation and Change: Europe and Beyond  is now open.

 Focusing on the emphasis areas of the University of Graz – South Eastern Europe and North, Central and South America – the summer school will take place from June 29th to July 12th, 2014 at Seggau Castle in Styria, in the wine region close to the Slovene border. Emphasizing on the aspects of transformation processes and demographic change, interdisciplinary morning lectures will provide the context for the six specialized seminar workshops in the afternoon. The Graz International Summer School Seggau is designed for internationally oriented, highly motivated students from all disciplines, who wish to deepen their understanding of current European and International affairs by studying and discussing global developments and challenges within the context of transformation processes and demographic change reflecting aspects of individual, social, political, religious, cultural, literary, regional, economic, cohort and national identities.
