Course
\nDescription: <\/span><\/b>This course examines the manifold
\nimplications of the language shift in Ireland in order to chart shifting
\nconceptions of Irish identity. It focuses on a selection of literary texts from
\nca. 1600 to the present, and brings these into dialogue with the cultural and
\npolitical contexts in which they were produced. The construction of this
\ndialogue is facilitated by supplementing these literary texts with more
\ntheoretical scholarship that explores the relationship between language,
\nspecifically translation, and society.<\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

\nObjectives: <\/span><\/b>1. To introduce students to a series
\nof Irish authors from ca. 1600 to the present day in a manner that illustrates
\nhow the question of the two languages in Ireland has influenced their work. 2.
\nTo introduce students to the field of cultural translation studies.<\/span><\/font><\/p>\n
