{"id":40379,"date":"2021-09-21T18:12:44","date_gmt":"2021-09-21T17:12:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/anglist.ffzg.unizg.hr\/?p=40379"},"modified":"2023-09-30T18:03:03","modified_gmt":"2023-09-30T17:03:03","slug":"translation-theory-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/anglist.ffzg.unizg.hr\/?p=40379&lang=en","title":{"rendered":"Translation Theory"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><strong>Course title: <\/strong>Translation Theory<strong><br \/>\nInstructor<\/strong>: Dr. Nata\u0161a Pavlovi\u0107<strong><br \/>\nECTS credits: <\/strong>6<strong><br \/>\nStatus:<\/strong> Mandatory for translation students, elective for others<strong><br \/>\nSemester: <\/strong>1st<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><strong>Enrollment requirements:<\/strong> Students must be enrolled in a graduate program at the University of Zagreb.<strong><br \/>\nCourse description:<\/strong> The course deals with the following topics: translation theory\/theories, Translation Studies; different conceptualizations of translation and translators; types of translation (and interpreting); translators\u2019 tools and resources; terminology and special languages; translation equivalence; translation shifts, procedures and strategies; language variation; text type, genre, discourse; norms and translation; functionalist approaches (<em>skopos<\/em> theory); the \u201ccultural turn\u201d in TS (cultural studies, gender studies, post-colonial studies, deconstruction); translation ethics.<br \/>\nThe course combines lectures and seminar work (3+1). Students also do assignments (e.g. forum discussions) via an e-learning platform, on <a href=\"http:\/\/omega.ffzg.hr\/\">http:\/\/omega.ffzg.hr\/<\/a> (Moodle).<br \/>\n<strong>Objectives:<\/strong> By the end of the course the students should be familiar with contemporary translation theories and current trends in Translation Studies. They should master the metalanguage and acquire the conceptual repertoire needed to discuss a wide range of issues associated with the phenomenon of translation.
