\u201cMy uncle, the war made him rich\u201d: Dislocation, Extraposition and Topicalization<\/strong><\/p>\n Predavanje \u0107e se odr\u017eati na engleskom jeziku u srijedu, 16. listopada u 9:30 sati u dvorani I.<\/strong><\/p>\n Dobro do\u0161li!<\/p>\n Sa\u017eetak predavanja:<\/u><\/p>\n Dislocation, Extraposition and Topicalization are types of Discontinuity phenomena in syntax, causing the \u201ccanonical\u201d word order of a clause to be rearranged, often for pragmatic-communicative purposes like focussing. They are quite frequent in the languages of the world, but English, being a strictly configurational language, is largely reluctant to employ these movements. The lecture will look at how the three types appear in English, exploring their limitations and possibilities. Examples are: Dislocation: My uncle, the war made him rich<\/em>; Extraposition: It appears that the road is blocked<\/em>; Topicalization: This stuff I refuse to drink<\/em>.<\/p>\n A sub-type of Topicalization is Wh-Fronting (Who did James interview?<\/em>), radically different in Present English from Who interviewed James?<\/em>, where nothing is fronted. A further type of discontinuity, Scrambling, does not exist in English, but is normal in German, Latin, Hungarian and other non-configurational languages. U\u017ea podru\u010dja njegova rada obuhva\u0107aju post-generativnu fonolo\u0161ku teoriju, morfofonologiju, povijesnu lingvistiku engleskoga i drugih germanskih jezika, varijetete engleskoga te jidi\u0161ku filologiju.<\/p>\n Na ma\u0111arski je preveo osam Shakespeareovih djela, a 2016. godine objavljen je i njegov prijevod na ma\u0111arski Danteove Bo\u017eanstvene komedije<\/em>.
