Students will also develop their abilities of analytical and critical thinking, and raise their cultural competence. <b><br \/>\n<\/b><strong>Course description:<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: small;\"> The course focuses on the syntactic aspects of the contemporary English language, placing particular emphasis on different types of clauses and their properties in order to help students improve their written and oral communication skills. It also includes the reading and analysis of texts in order to enable students to expand their vocabulary, improve their comprehension of stylistically diverse texts and gain better knowledge of English-speaking cultures.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: small;\"> In classes students study grammar and work on the selected texts. The selected texts are collected in the Reader, provided at the beginning of the course. They include short fiction texts and newspaper articles. As it is important that the selected texts are recent their titles are not listed in the week by week schedule.
